'Hazardous' winds with gusts up to 60 mph are expected across the area this afternoon (February 25th) and evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The NWS warns the winds could cause property damage and has issued a high wind warning for between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Post's Capital Weather Gang reports the winds could down trees and cause power outages. Already, some 5,000 customers are in the dark in the D.C. area. Property in outdoor areas should be secured.
Before the strongest winds arrive, the Capital Weather Gang says there is a slight risk of severe storms today as a cold front passes over the area.
