Police Report: January 28-31

January 28th : 3200 block of Buchanan Street : Disorderly conduct arrest - 10:26 pm. While officers were involved with a motorist stopped for a traffic violation they were accosted by an hostile man who proceeded to interfere with the officers and disturb surrounding residents. When the officers’ attempts to get the man to calm down failed he was arrested for disorderly conduct. A search of the man incident to his arrest revealed that he was carrying a concealed weapon. He was charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Traffic stop/vehicle impound - 11:35 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and learned that the driver did not possess a valid license. He was cited accordingly and his vehicle was impounded for safekeeping. Police Report: January 26-27

January 26th : 4200 block of 34th Street : Vehicle fire - 8:15 pm. A City owned pickup truck plowing snow suddenly caught fire. By the time fire/rescue personnel arrived to extinguish the blaze the truck was fully engulfed in flame. By the time the fire department extinguished the fire the vehicle had been totally destroyed. The Public Works employee driving the truck escaped without injury. The cause of the fire remains undetermined. January 27th : 4000 block of 34th Street : Stolen vehicle/recovered – 7:50 am. The owner of a 1995 Honda Accord told officers that he parked his car outside his residence the night before and when he returned for it this morning he discovered that it had been stolen. Officers canvassed the area for the vehicle and located it parked in the Cedar Lane alley. The vehicle had ignition damage and no arrests were made. Police Report: January 24-26

January 24th : 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Theft from auto - 8:50 am. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime between 3:00 pm and 11:00 pm on January 23rd someone stole the two side mirrors off his 2002 Chevrolet Van. Upshur Street & Russell Avenue : Motor vehicle collision - 10:25 am. Officers stood by while the drivers of two vehicles involved in a minor collision exchanged personal and insurance information. Officers also completed a Maryland state collision report. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Traffic stop/protective order arrest - 8:20 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that there was an MVA pick up order on the license plates and the man driving had a suspended license. The officers also learned that the driver and his female passenger had an active protection order against one other. January 21st : 3200 block of Upshur Street : Warrant arrest – 9 pm. Officers responded to a private residence in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant on an individual for DWI. The officers found the man at home and arrested him on the warrant without incident. He was delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. January 22nd : Rhode Island Avenue @ 34th Street : Motor vehicle collision – 2:25 pm. Investigation revealed that two vehicles were traveling north on Rhode Island Avenue and both vehicle entered the traffic circle at the same time. The vehicle closest to the inner curb steered left to avoid colliding with the second vehicle and in so doing struck the curb and punctured the two left side tires. The second vehicle did not stop and left the scene continuing north on Rhode Island Avenue. The driver of the disabled vehicle could not provide any description of the second vehicle. 3100 block of Taylor Street : Attempted residential burglary – 9 pm. The homeowner told the officers that she returned home to discover her front door ajar. Further investigation revealed that someone tried to break into the home but was unable to make entry because the dead bolt prevented the door from being opened. The frame of the door was completely destroyed but the dead bolt kept the perpetrators at bay. Nothing was taken from inside and no physical evidence was obtained. 2700 block of Queens Chapel Road : Warrant arrest – 9:10 pm. Officers stopped a 2004 Dodge Neon for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed that the driver had an open arrest warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office for driving on a revoked license. He was arrested on the warrant, issued several traffic citations and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. Police Report: January 19

4200 block of 33rd Street : Search warrant - 7:00 pm. MRPD officers assisted detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department in executing a search warrant in reference to locating weapons used in an attempt 1st degree murder case that occurred in their jurisdiction. 1 Municipal Place : Disorderly conduct/assault - 7:40 38pm. Officers stopped to conduct field interviews with several individuals loitering at the bus terminal. The individuals told the officers that they were waiting on the bus. The officers left after advising the group to either take the bus or move along. The officers observed several busses arrive and depart however the group continued to loiter at the bus stop. The officers returned to further investigate and when they began speaking with the group two of them became very loud and disorderly causing a scene. Police Report: January 17-18

January 17th : 4200 block of 28th Street : Assault – 12:05 am. The investigation revealed that a woman had left her two children with a man and woman with whom she was acquainted. When the woman failed to contact the couple or her children after several days the couple notified Child Protective Services. CPS contacted the mother about the incident and began an investigation. The mother angered that the couple contacted CPS, came to their home, produced a knife and tried to stab the woman. When the man intervened he sustained a 4” laceration to his bicep. The assailant fled the scene before police arrived. The man was transported to Washington Adventist Hospital for treatment of his wound. MRPD officers and PGPD detectives responded to the hospital to interview the victim. Based on that interview a warrant was obtained for the woman’s arrest charging her with 1st degree assault. She remains at large at the time of this report. 4200 block of 31st Street : Recovered stolen auto – 5

Police Report: January 14-16

January 14th : Queenstown Drive & Chauncey Place : Hit and run collision - 7:05 am. Officers found where a parked vehicle sustained minor damage from being struck by a second vehicle that fled the scene. Over the course of the next 48 hours officers were able to locate and charge the driver of the striking vehicle. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Warrant arrest - 10:10 pm. Officers received a call from the Montgomery County Sheriffs in reference to an individual who had been mistakenly released from their custody. MRPD officers located the individual and assisted the Sheriff’s Office with taking the individual back into custody. January 15th : Chillum Road & Queens Chapel Road : Narcotics arrest - 1:30 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for several traffic violations. Further investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of narcotics and the officers saw him pass the drugs to a passenger. Both individuals were arrested and charged with various CDS offenses

Police Report: January 12-13

January 12th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : EPS – 1 am. Officers were called to investigate a man who was reported to be running into and out of oncoming traffic. The officers detained the man who was incoherent and combative towards them. The man either refused or because of his condition was unable to identify himself. He was taken to Washington Adventist Hospital and turned over to the medical staff for an emergency psychiatric evaluation. January 13th : 2700 block of Queens Chapel Road : Recovered stolen auto – 1:20 am. While checking the area for a suspicious person officers discovered an unoccupied 1995 Honda Accord that had been previously been reported stolen from an address in Takoma Park. Takoma Park PD was notified of the recovery and the vehicle was impounded for safekeeping. 3700 block of 36th Street : Vandalism to auto – 7 am. The victim/owner of a 2000 Toyota Camry reported a scratch to the front bumper. 4100 block of 30th Street : Residential burglary – 7

Police Report: January 11

3100 block of Perry Street : Vandalism to auto - 8:45 am. Sometime between 5 pm on January 10th and the time of the report someone smashed out the passenger window of the victim’s 1997 Chevy Cavalier. 3200 block of Shepherd Street : Sick person - 10:25 am. Officers received a complaint from a man who said that he had not heard from his father in over 24 hours and was concerned about his welfare. Officers along with fire/rescue personnel forced entry into the father’s residence and found the elderly man incoherent and dehydrated. He was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. 2500 block of Arundel Road : Theft/Fraud - 1:15 pm. The victim told the officers that earlier this month someone had taken a check she had written and altered the amount of the check. The check was cashed and additional monies were illegally obtained from the victim’s account. 4000 block of 29th Street : Vandalism to auto - 2:20 pm. Police Report: January 10

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Open arrest warrant - 8:50 am. Officers stopped a vehicle because the driver was not wearing a seat belt. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle had an open arrest warrant for traffic related charges. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3300 block of Shepherd Street : Theft - 1:30 pm. A man came into MRPD to report the theft of a disability check. Further investigation revealed that the check had been cashed by a relative who is also the man’s caretaker. The incident is under further investigation. 2500 block of Allison Street : Assault - 10:50 pm. Officers responded to an assault in progress and when they arrived they found two sisters engaged in a physical altercation. After further investigation one of the sisters was arrested for assault and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Police Report: January 7-9

January 7th : Other than the citizen armed robbery previously reported there were no significant incidents. January 8th : 4600 block of 27th Street : Vehicle impound – 2 am. Officers received a call from a man who said that someone had stolen his vehicle and it was last seen in the Queens Manor apartment complex. Officers canvassed the area and located the vehicle which had been involved in a crash. The vehicle’s air bags had been deployed and there was front end damage. There was no evidence on the scene that the vehicle had been stolen. Since the complainant called from his home in Silver Spring, Montgomery County police went by his house to notify him that his vehicle had been recovered. MCP officers told MRPD officers that when they interviewed the complainant the saw that he had injuries to face consistent with those caused by air bag deployment in a auto collision. January 5th : 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Vehicle impound - 12:37 pm. Code Enforcement officers impounded a vehicle for displaying expired registration plates. 4000 block of 34th Street : Traffic stop - 9:252 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for having unregistered license plates and numerous equipment violations. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended driver’s license and open arrest warrant through Montgomery County for failing to appear in court on an alcohol violation. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville and his vehicle was impounded. January 6th : 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue : Vehicle impound - 12:30 am. Officers impounded a vehicle for being parked on the roadway with no license plates displayed. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Attempt residential burglary – 8:20 am. January 3rd : 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : Theft from auto – 10:45 am. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole her purse while she was inside the gas station. 3800 block of 34th Street : Stolen auto – 11:50 am. The victim told the officers that sometime during the previous 24 hours someone stole her 1995 Honda Civic. There were no license plates attached to the vehicle at the time of the theft. 4000 block of 36th Street : Vandalism to auto – 3 pm. The victim showed the officers where someone damaged the hood and engine compartment of his 2001 Mercedes Benz. The officers determined that the damage was caused by a gun shot. January 4th : 4300 block of Kaywood Drive : Theft from auto – 3:45 am. Police Report: January 2nd

January 2nd : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : Stolen auto - 12:05 am. A delivery person parked his 2007 Toyota Corolla (MD tags 3CLT89) in front of Joe’s Carryout and left the keys on the front seat while he went into the restaurant. A few moments later a black male described as in his 30’s got into the vehicle and drove off with it down Chillum Road. 2700 block of Webster Street : Loud music/disorderly – 3 am. While officers were attempting to speak with a resident tenant about a loud music complaint one of the tenant’s guests who was highly intoxicated pushed one of the officers. She then began to curse, yell and scream causing a large disturbance. She was arrested, charged with assault on a police officer and disorderly conduct and delivered to the custody of DOC in Upper Marlboro. 4100 block of 30th Street : Residential burglary/sexual assault - 4:25 am. Police Report: January 1, 2011

January 1st : 3000 block of Queens Chapel Road : Death report - 8:05 am. Officers learned that a 78 year female passed away during the early morning hours. There was no evidence of foul play and it appears that the deceased suffered from several health issues prior to her death. Death was pronounced by a doctor from Maryland Community Hospice. 3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue (Brentwood) : Assault - 1:40pm. Officers learned that a customer was unhappy about a purchase and returned to the store to complain. An argument ensued and the customer allegedly threw water and 30 dead goldfish at the store owner before fleeing the store. The store owner was unable to provide the customer’s personal information. The incident will be followed up by the Brentwood Police Department. 2400 block of Arundel Road : Death report - 3:10 pm. Officers received a call for an unconscious man inside an apartment. He was transported to Washington Adventist Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Doctor

Police Report: December 30-31

December 30th : 4700 block of 27th Street : Stolen auto – 3:40 am. A blue 2001 Hyundai Sonata (MD tags 084AZV) was stolen from the handicapped space where it had been parked by the owner at about 3 pm on the 29th. 3300 block of Chauncey Place : Theft from auto – 3:30 pm. The rear tag (Maryland 8EEY64) from a 2005 Toyota Corolla was discovered stolen by the vehicle’s owner. The theft occurred sometime between 8 pm on the 29th and the time it was reported to police. December 31st : 2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11) : Commercial armed robbery – 2:10 am. Two black males armed with handguns and dressed in dark clothing with hoods came into the store and armed with handguns. They forced the store clerks to open the cash register and put the cash into a back pack. Both suspects fled the scene on foot towards Eastern Avenue after the robbery. A K-9 track was ineffective in locating the suspects. PGPD robbery detectives responded to assume a follow-up investigation. 3400 block of

Police Report: December 28-29

December 28th : 2500 Allison Street : Theft from auto – 6:20 am. Sometime between 8:30 pm on December 27th and the time of the report someone broke into a 1995 Toyota Tercel and stole several stereo components. 3800 block of 33rd Street : Theft from auto – 9:40 am. Bladensburg PD officers stopped a vehicle for driving with no front tag. The driver stated that the last time he knew his front tag was still attached to n his car was on December 24th when it was parked at his residence on 33rd Street. MRPD officers were notified and took a theft from auto report. 2700 block of Arundel Road : Residential burglary – 8:10 am. Officers responded for report of a residential burglary and when they arrived they discovered an apartment that had been forcibly entered. While checking the apartment they discovered plain view evidence of narcotics distribution. The apartment was secured and a search warrant was obtained. With assistance of PGPD narcotics officers the search recovered 103 gram

Police Report: December 26-27

December 26th : 3249 Rhode Island Avenue : Vandalism to auto – 3:25 am. Officers received a call for a man “dancing” on a MRPD marked police vehicle that was parked in front of the police station. Officers were able to catch the man and arrest him but not before he did approximately $3,000 damage to the vehicle. The man was under the influence of suspected PCP at the time of arrest. He was taken to Washington Adventist Hospital for a medical examination before being delivered to the custody of DOC in Upper Marlboro. December 27th : 2300 block of Varnum Street (7-11) : Theft – 12:25 am. Officers stopped a man who had just stolen food from the 7-11. When they told him he was under arrest for theft he became combative and had to be restrained by force. After a brief struggle he was taken into custody. He was charged with theft and resisting arrest and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4100 block of 28th Street : Theft from auto – 8:40 am. A 2004 Honda Civic was br

Police Report: December 23-25

December 23rd : 4500 block of 29th Street : Stolen auto – 7:30 am. The victim told the officers that her vehicle was stolen from in front of her sister’s house sometime prior to her reporting the incident to police. The officers later learned that the vehicle theft was possibly related to a burglary (see next entry) at the sister’s house where the victim had a second set of keys to her vehicle. At about 4 pm officers were notified by the Hyattsville City Police that the vehicle had been recovered at the Mall at Prince George’s. No arrests were made and the victim was notified of the recovery. 4500 block of 29th Street : Residential burglary – 11 am. The victim told the officers that while helping her sister search for her car keys she discovered that several items were missing from her home. The missing items included the car keys, several electronic items and other personal property. The officers were unable to determine a point of entry into the home and no evidence was recover
