Police Report: January 28-31

January 28th:

3200 block of Buchanan Street: Disorderly conduct arrest - 10:26 pm. While officers were involved with a motorist stopped for a traffic violation they were accosted by an hostile man who proceeded to interfere with the officers and disturb surrounding residents. When the officers’ attempts to get the man to calm down failed he was arrested for disorderly conduct. A search of the man incident to his arrest revealed that he was carrying a concealed weapon. He was charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

3500 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Traffic stop/vehicle impound - 11:35 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and learned that the driver did not possess a valid license. He was cited accordingly and his vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

January 29th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Traffic stop/vehicle impound - 1:45 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation and learned that the driver did not possess a valid license. He was cited accordingly and his vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

2700 block of Upshur Street: Theft from auto - 3:10 pm. The victim/owner told the officers that sometime between 1:15 pm and 3:00 pm someone broke the side window on his vehicle and stole a laptop computer and an external hard drive.

3200 block of Queenstown Drive: Vehicle impound - 5:30 pm. Officers on patrol conducted a registration check on a Honda Accord. A short time later they received a response indicating that the attached license plates were supposed to be on a Dodge and not on the Honda. The license plates were removed for return to MVA and the vehicle was impounded.

4200 block of Russell Avenue: Vehicle impound - 9:30 pm. Officers impounded a vehicle that had been double parked and blocking traffic for over an hour.

Queenstown Drive and Chauncey Place: Hit and run collision - 10:50 pm. Officers responded to investigate the report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision. The description of the striking vehicle matched that of a vehicle that had been involved in a separate hit and run on Chillum Road outside the City. During their investigation they were able to locate both the striking vehicle and the man who was driving it. He was issued numerous traffic citations before being sent on his way.

January 30th:

2900 block of Arundel Road: Warrant arrest - 12:45 am. Officers responded for the report of loud music emanating from an apartment. When they arrived they spoke with the resident who was intoxicated and very confrontational. Further investigation revealed that the man had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving without a license. He was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

Arundel Road and 34th Street: Motor vehicle collision - 2:45 pm. Officers initially responded for the report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. When the officers arrived they discovered that it was actually a bicyclist who had been struck. Their investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the traffic signal and struck the bicyclist who sustained only minor injuries. The driver was issued two traffic citations.

January 31st (early morning):

Queens Chapel Road and Chillum Road: Warrant arrest - 12:50 am. Officers stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle had an open arrest warrant through Prince George’s County for possession of marijuana. She was arrested on the warrant and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage.
