Police Report: January 5-7

January 5th:

3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Vehicle impound - 12:37 pm. Code Enforcement officers impounded a vehicle for displaying expired registration plates.

4000 block of 34th Street: Traffic stop - 9:252 pm. Officers stopped a vehicle for having unregistered license plates and numerous equipment violations. Further investigation revealed that the driver had a suspended driver’s license and open arrest warrant through Montgomery County for failing to appear in court on an alcohol violation. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville and his vehicle was impounded.

January 6th:

3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue: Vehicle impound - 12:30 am. Officers impounded a vehicle for being parked on the roadway with no license plates displayed.

3100 block of Queens Chapel Road: Attempt residential burglary – 8:20 am. Officers responded for a reported burglary in progress. The caller victim told communications personnel that someone was trying to break down her door. When the officers arrived they found the door badly damaged however the suspects were unable to break the door open and fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.

3500 block of Bunker Hill Road: Vandalism to auto - 10:00 am. Sometime between 7:45 am on January 5th and the time of the report someone intentionally damaged the windshield, passenger window, hood, and driver’s side door of the victim’s vehicle.

Chillum Road and Queens Chapel Road: Warrant arrest - 11:35 pm. Officers on patrol observed a subject known to them to have an open warrant for possession of narcotics. He was stopped and arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed that he was in possession of more suspected marijuana and crack cocaine. He was charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville.

January 7th (early morning):

4600 block of 27th Street: Citizen armed robbery - 2:45 am. As the victim was driving home he noticed that he was being followed by a dark blue minivan with tinted windows driven by a female. Once he parked at his residence, two black males got out of the van, pointed handguns at him and ordered him to the ground. Once the victim was on the ground the two suspects robbed him of his cell phone, wallet, and jewelry. They returned to the van and fled down Queens Chapel towards the District of Columbia.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night.
