Police Report: January 11

3100 block of Perry Street: Vandalism to auto - 8:45 am. Sometime between 5 pm on January 10th and the time of the report someone smashed out the passenger window of the victim’s 1997 Chevy Cavalier.

3200 block of Shepherd Street: Sick person - 10:25 am. Officers received a complaint from a man who said that he had not heard from his father in over 24 hours and was concerned about his welfare. Officers along with fire/rescue personnel forced entry into the father’s residence and found the elderly man incoherent and dehydrated. He was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

2500 block of Arundel Road: Theft/Fraud - 1:15 pm. The victim told the officers that earlier this month someone had taken a check she had written and altered the amount of the check. The check was cashed and additional monies were illegally obtained from the victim’s account.

4000 block of 29th Street: Vandalism to auto - 2:20 pm. Sometime between 5 pm on January 10th and the time of the report someone smashed out the right rear passenger window of the victim’s 2004 Toyota Corolla.

3200 block of Upshur Street: Assault - 11:45 pm. Officers responded for the report of an assault that occurred earlier. When the officers arrived they questioned a group of intoxicated individuals and learned that a minor assault had occurred. The individuals were advised of their options with a District Court Commissioner.

I received this earlier today courtesy of CPL Jim Flynn of the Bladensburg Police Department: For those of you who have a vehicle that has a remote entry device, you may also have a handy burglar/emergency alarm that you probably don’t think about. Most of these remote entry devices have a panic button that activates your vehicle’s security alarm system. Test it. It will activate from almost anywhere inside your house and will keep honking and flashing the lights until either your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the remote entry fob. It works if your vehicle is parked in your driveway or garage. So, the next time you come home for the night and start to put your keys away think of this: Put your car keys beside your bed when you retire for the night.
