Police Report: December 20-22

December 20th : 3300 block of Bunker Hill Road (Joe’s Movement) : At about 6:45 pm officers took a report of an attempted theft . The victim told the officers that a man, known to employees only as Brian, came into the building, grabbed her laptop and tried to leave. The victim confronted the man and took her laptop back. He immediately fled the building in an unknown direction. Officers are in the process of trying to get the man’s full identity for potential charges. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 9:30 pm officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Further investigation revealed that the driver was not licensed and the tags on the vehicle were suspended for failing to comply with VEIP and a compulsory insurance violation. December 17th : 2800 block of Chillum Road : At about 9 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s registration was suspended for VEIP emission. The driver was issued a state citation and the vehicle was impounded. 3200 block of Varnum Street : At about 2:30 pm took a report of a potential fraud . An elderly female resident told the officers that she received a telephone call and the solicitor asked for her personal information - social security number, banking information and other vital statistics. The home owner gave the caller this information and later told her daughter of the conversation and the daughter called to report the incident to police. December 15th : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 8:20 am officers responded for the report of a suspicious person loitering in an apartment hallway. The officers were able to locate the man and identified him as one who had been previously banned from the property and arrested by MRPD previously for trespassing on the property. He was arrested again, charged with trespassing and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 4200 block of 28th Street : At about 12 pm officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim came into the police station a told officers that someone had stolen the tags (DC ‘JIMMY’) off of his 2005 Nissan Altima. He was referred to DC motor vehicles for replacement tags. 3400 block of Newton Place : At about 5:10 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary . December 13th : 4100 block of 30th Street : At about 9 am officers served an arrest warrant on a subject wanted for failure to appear in court. He was arrested without incident and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 3:50 pm officers received a call for a disorderly subject refusing to leave the business. When they arrived they found a man sitting on the ground cursing and refusing to move. He was arrested, charged with disorderly conduct and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 8:45 pm officers took a report of a vandalism to auto . The victim told the officers that he parked his vehicle at about 7 pm and upon returning to it he discovered that someone had thrown a rock through a window. December 10th : 4000 block of 34th Street : At about 9 am officers took a vandalism report. The reporting person, a contractor working on the vacant property, told the officers that he left the property secured and locked on December 9th. When he returned this morning he discovered that someone had damaged the front door lock possibly trying to enter the property. No entry was made because the top dead bolt lock remained secured. A check of the residence revealed no further damage and nothing missing from inside. No additional evidence/witnesses could be located. 4700 block of 31st Place : At about 2:40 pm officers took a hit and run motor vehicle collision report. The victim’s vehicle was legally parked and unoccupied when it was struck by an unidentified vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. When weather conditions warrant the declaration of a snow emergency the City of Mount Rainier follows the District of Columbia, not Maryland or Prince George’s County. Residents should be aware that when a winter weather advisory is announced the chances of a snow emergency being declared is a distinct possibility and you should tune in to news and weather reports for updated information. The Alert DC system is an excellent resource for obtaining emergency information including snow emergency declarations. By signing up for this service, you can receive emergency notifications in a variety of ways such as e-mail, cell phone text message, Blackberry or wireless PDA. Police Report: December 8-9

December 8th : 35th Street & Bunker Hill Road : At about 9:00 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim told the officers that he parked and locked his vehicle at about 6 pm on December 7th. When he returned for his vehicle this morning he discovered that someone had smashed out the front passenger window and stolen a wallet and cell phone from inside. No evidence could be recovered and no witnesses were located. 4600 block of 25th Street : At about 4:45 pm officers patrolling the Queen Manor apartment complex smelled the odor of suspected marijuana coming from a laundry room. Investigating further the officers found four individuals in the room, one of whom was smoking marijuana. He was arrested for the crime and a search incident to his arrest revealed that he was in possession of an additional quantity of marijuana. December 6th : 2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 6:30am officers assisted the FBI with executing a search/arrest warrant . The FBI was conducting several warrants across the country at the same time in reference to a drug syndicate. Officers were able to apprehend and arrest the targeted individual without incident. 3300 block of Queenstown Drive : At about 4:40 pm officers took a report of a hit and run motor vehicle collision. The victim’s legally parked vehicle was struck by an unknown vehicle which failed to remain and/or leave information at the scene. December 7th : 3249 Rhode Island Avenue : At about 5:15 pm officers arrested a woman on open arrest warrant that had been issued out of Prince George’s County for failing to appear in court. December 3rd : 3800 block of 34th Street : At about 7:30 pm officers took a report of a stolen license plate . The victim told the officers that he last saw his Maryland license plate of 74R309 attached to his Dodge pickup truck on December 2nd at about noon. No evidence or witnesses to the theft were located. December 4th : Queens Chapel Road & Chillum Road : At about 3:55 am officers on patrol observed a man who they knew from prior contacts had an open arrest warrant for failing to appear in court. He was stopped for a field interview and the warrant was confirmed. He was arrested and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 6:40 pm officers took a report of a runaway juvenile. The parents of a 15 year old girl told the officers that their daughter had run away from home because she wanted to go to a party. No foul play is suspected and the juvenile’s information was entered into the NCIC missing person’s database. B

December 2nd : Nothing significant to report. December 3rd (early morning) : 3700 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 1:10 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Further investigation revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He refused to submit to blood alcohol test. He was charged and released. His vehicle was impounded for safekeeping.

4000 block of 29th Street : At about 9 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim told the officers that sometime between 1:30 am and 7:30 am this morning someone broke into his work van and stole approximately $1,900 worth of his work tools. A check of the area for evidence/witnesses proved negative. 4500 block of Eastern Avenue (BP station) : At about 9:45 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim told the officers that while she was inside the station paying for gas someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse. The station’s surveillance camera was reviewed and a black male dressed in all dark clothing was seen taking the victim’s purse and then fleeing the scene in a silver convertible Nissan 350ZX. Police Report: November 30

30 th and Taylor Streets:   At about 1:15 pm officers on patrol observed two parked vehicles both of which were displaying the same license plate. Further investigation revealed that neither vehicle was registered and that one of the vehicles had the front tag of an unregistered license plate and the other was displaying the rear tag of the same unregistered plate. Both vehicle were cited appropriately and impounded.

November 28th : 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 8 am officers responded for the report of a suspicious person . The officers stopped the individual in a stairwell and immediately recognized him as a man who had been barred from the property by MRPD on previous occasions. The officers again advised him to leave the property and not return and he complied. When he saw the officers leave the area he returned to his previous spot in the stairwell. The officers had anticipated his actions and also returned and arrested him for trespassing and failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer. 3200 block of Chillum Road : At about 3 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a valid license. He was charged accordingly and his vehicle was impounded for safekeeping. 4100 block of 31st Street : At about 7:15 am officers took a report of a residential burglary . The victim told the officers that sometime between 11:30 last night and this morning someone entered the residence and stole numerous items of personal property from the lower main level of the house. The victim also said that the house was secured when they went to bed, however when they awoke and came downstairs they observed the rear door wide open and the property missing. Queens Chapel Road @ Chillum Road : At about 1:55 am officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation . Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a driver’s license and had been arrested for the same offense two weeks earlier. He was arrested again for the traffic violation. 4300 block of Russell Avenue : At about 9:15 pm officers took a report of a citizen armed robbery . The victim told the officers that while he was walking to his residence he was accosted by two black males, one of whom displayed a black revolver and demanded his property. The second suspect relieved the victim of his cash and cell phone and fled on foot on Russell Avenue towards Eastern Avenue. A search for the two suspects proved negative and PGPD robbery detectives responded to the scene to assume a follow-up investigation. 4200 block of 29th Street : At about 9 am officers responded to assist fire/rescue personnel with a medical emergency . When police and EMS arrived they discovered that a man had died after a protracted battle with cancer. 4600 block of 25th Street : At about 8:15 am officers responded to a report of a vandalism to auto . The victim told the officers that he parked and locked his vehicle at about 1:30 am. When he returned for it this morning he discovered that someone had broken out his front passenger window with a brick. November 23rd : 3100 block of Upshur Street : At about 11:30 am officers took a report of lost property . The reporting person told the officers that she lost two Jamaican passports. One of the passports was hers and one was her son’s. 3600 block of Perry Street : At about 1:30 pm officers took a report of a residential burglary . The officers were unable to determine an exact point of entry into the residence. The victim reported numerous items of personal property had been stolen, including jewelry and other items. The victim also told the officers that the person responsible may be a former friend who resided with her at one time. The residence was processed for prints with one possible recovered. November 24th : 4300 block of 30th Street : At about 3:30 am officers responded for the report of an intruder . When the officers arrived they searched the residence to ensure that the intruder was not still in the home. The victim could only describe the suspect as a male wearing

November 20th : 2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 2:25 am officers stopped a suspicious person for a field interview. During the interview the officers discovered that he had two open arrest warrants for possession of crack cocaine. He was arrested on the warrants and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3200 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 11:25 pm a Mount Rainier Police Officer was issuing parking tickets when an irate black male approached him from behind and struck him in the back. The officer then turned around and advised the subject he was under arrest. The subject, who appeared to be under the influence of PCP, did not comply with the officer’s repeated verbal commands and charged at the officer attempting to further assaulted him. The officer was able to call for assistance and deploy a TASER. After a brief struggle officers were able to take the subject into custody. November 17th : 4500 block of 29th Street : At about 7:15 am officers took a report of a vandalism to auto. The victim told the officers that when she went out to her vehicle this morning she discovered that someone had broken out the driver’s side window. No evidence/witnesses could be found. 2700 block of Webster Street : At about 8:15 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that when he went out to his rented 2001 BMW this morning he discovered that someone had broken into the vehicle through the passenger side window and stole his iPod. A canvass of the area provided negative results. 3200 block of Chillum Road : At about 8:40 pm officers responded for the report of a suspicious person. The mother of a 26 year old man told the officers that her son suffered from bipolar disorder and had not been taking his medication. November 14th : 4200 block of 32nd Street : At about 9:15 am officers took a report of a theft from auto. The victim told the officers that as she was about to get into her vehicle she noticed that the driver’s side window had been broken out. She also discovered that her GPS system had been stolen. No evidence or witnesses were identified. 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 5:30 pm officers took a report of a stolen auto. The owner of a 1998 Pontiac grand Prix (DC tag DN5185) told the officers that he left his vehicle running with a passenger inside. The passenger later left the vehicle without turning it off and taking the keys. When the owner went back to the vehicle he saw it being driven away by an unknown person. November 11th : 3100 block of Upshur Street : At about 9:45 am officers took a theft from auto report. The victim told the officers that sometime between 9:30 pm on the 10th and the time of his call to police someone broke the left rear vent window of his Honda Accord, entered the car and stole his Pioneer radio. 2300 block of Arundel Road : At about 5 pm officers investigated a hit and run collision. The victim told the officers that he heard what sounded like a collision and went outside to investigate. He discovered that his vehicle had been hit by a second vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. 3500 block of 37th Street : At about 5:45 officers took a report of a residential burglary. The victim told the officers that sometime between 2 pm and 5:30 pm someone forced open the front door to her residence, entered, and stole two laptop computers. November 8th : Queen Chapel & Chillum Roads : At about 4:20 am officers stopped a vehicle that was operating with no headlights. Further investigation revealed that a female juvenile had taken the vehicle without her parent’s permission and given it to her boyfriend who was driving at the time of the stop. The boyfriend/driver was arrested, charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 4:10 pm officers took a theft report. The victim told the officers that he ordered an entertainment center which was delivered to his residence and signed for by an unknown party. He never received the merchandise. November 5th : 4200 block of Kaywood Drive : At about 10:10 am Mount Rainier Code Enforcement impounded a vehicle for displaying expired registration plates. The vehicle had been marked for 48-hour towing on November 3rd. 2900 block of Shepherd Street : At about 3:30 pm officers took a report of a storehouse burglary. The officers observed that the victim’s garage had been forcibly entered and various tools had been stolen. 2400 block of Chillum Road : At about 7:40 pm officers conducted a random license plate check on a vehicle through MILES/NCIC. The check revealed that the vehicle’s tags were suspended for failing to comply with VEIP. The vehicle was stopped and further investigation revealed that the occupants were in possession of marijuana. They were arrested, charged accordingly and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. The victim told the officers that while inside paying for gas someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse. The resident told the officers that she left her apartment at about 6:30 am and when she returned she noticed that the weather stripping around the front door had been removed. November 3rd : 2200 block of Varnum Street : At about 7 am officers took a report of vandalism to auto . The owner of a 2008 Chrysler showed the officers where someone had thrown eggs at her vehicle. No evidence was recovered and no witnesses were identified. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 7:50 pm officers took a report of a vandalism to auto . The owner of a Nissan Xterra showed the officers where someone had broken out one of the vehicle’s windows. November 4th (early morning): 4100 block of Russell Avenue : At about 2:45 am officers responded for the report of two suspicious males on bicycles wearing all dark clothing possibly tampering with vehicles. The officers canvassed the area and came across two individuals who fit the description given by the complainant. 4500 block of Eastern Avenue : At about 7:20 am officers took a report of a theft from auto . The victim told the officers that after she finished pumping gas she discovered that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her purse. 3100 block of Shepherd Street : At about 9:40 am officers took a report of a citizen robbery . The victim told the officers that as he was walking on his way to vote he was approached by two black males. One of the males displayed a handgun and demanded his property (cell phone, wallet, keys and brief case). After the suspect determined that the victim had nothing of value other than the cell phone he gave the victim back his property minus the cell phone. Both suspects then fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. The victim described the man with the gun as a black male, 18 years of age, with shoulder length dreads, thin build, wearing a black zip-up fleece with a red emblem on it and black track pants. 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 1:45 am officers responded for the report of unknown trouble and possibly the sounds of shots. When the officers arrived they discovered a red Ford truck that had collided with a parked car. A check of the truck revealed that its ignition was damaged and it was displaying a Maryland temporary tag that had been previously reported stolen to PGPD. A check of the truck’s VIN revealed that it had been reported stolen from an address in Mount Rainier back on October 26th. The truck was recovered and impounded for safekeeping. The vehicle with which the truck was badly damaged and partially blocking the roadway. Friday October 29th : 4100 block of 31st Street & 4000 block of 33rd Street : At about 8:15 am officers took two reports of thefts from auto . Both victims told the officers that sometime during the previous night someone broke into their car and stole several items of personal property. No evidence or witnesses to the crime were located. 3400 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 7:40 pm officers issued a man a criminal citation for urinating in public. Saturday October 30th : 2700 block of Upshur Street : At about 12:15 pm officers patrolling the area with a license plate reader received an alert that a passing vehicle had been reported stolen . The officers verified that the vehicle, a blue VW Jetta, had been reported stolen to PGPD and initiated a traffic stop. Both the driver and a passenger were arrested, charged with felony theft and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. October 27th : 3300 block of Buchanan Street : At about 4:45 pm officers took a report of a runaway juvenile . Officers were familiar with the juvenile and noted that she is a habitual run away. The officers learned from her parents that this time she left home on the 26th and did not return as expected. She is not considered a critical missing person and her information was entered into the NCIC missing persons database. 4300 block of Kaywood Drive : At about 3:30 pm officers were notified by DC police that their officers had recovered a 2009 Toyota Camry that was taken in an armed carjacking in the 4300 block of Kaywood Drive on September 1st. DC recovered the vehicle in the 700 block of Oglethorpe Street NE. It was in good condition with both tags still attached. PGPD robbery detectives took custody of the vehicle in order to process it for evidence. No arrests were made. 3200 block of Otis Street : At about 7 am officers took a report of a stolen auto . The victim told the officers that she parked her red 2003 Ford F250 P/U (MD tags 3MD2130) on the street overnight. When she returned for her truck this morning she discovered that it had been stolen. A canvass of the area failed to turn up any witnesses or evidence. During the course of the day officers issued three individuals criminal citations for violation of open alcohol laws. The citations were issued in the park at 30th Street and Arundel Road at about 10:30 pm; in the 4600 block of 25th Street at about 11 pm; and in the 3300 block of Rhode Island Avenue at about 11:55 pm.

Police Report: October 25

4100 block of 31st Street : At about 5:20 pm officers took a report of a juvenile that had been assaulted by her step father. The assault occurred while the juvenile was walking home from school. The step father punched the girl on the left side of the face with a closed fist because she was late coming home from school. By the time police arrived at the scene the step father had fled the scene. The victim’s mother took her to the District Court Commissioner’s office to apply for an arrest warrant. The victim had visible injuries to her face but refused treatment by fire/rescue personnel. 4500 block of 29th Street : At about 8:15 pm a resident observed a man get out of a gray GMC van and proceed to cut the lock off of an electrical transformer with bolt cutters. The resident called police and when officers arrived they located and arrested the man. He was charged with malicious destruction of property and delivered to the custody of DOC in Hyattsville. October 22nd : 3100 block of Chillum Road : At about 10:25 pm officers were flagged down by a citizen in reference to a 2008 Mercury Sable with the windows rolled down that had been there for an extended period of time. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that it had been reported stolen from an address in Prince George’s County. It was impounded for safekeeping and the owner was notified of the recovery . Kaywood Drive & Russell Avenue : At about 11:55 pm officers took a report of a stolen auto . The victim owner of a 2001 Toyota Camry (Maryland tag JBG549) told the officers that he parked his car by his residence at about 7:45 pm on the 21st. When he returned for it today he discovered that it had been stolen. No evidence or witnesses were identified. A police officer from the Morningside Police Department who resides in the Kaywood Apartments complex came out to his marked police vehicle to discover that someone had smashed out the cruiser’s windshield. No evidence or witnesses were located.

Police Report: October 20

3100 block of Taylor Street : At about 2:45 pm officers investigated a two-car motor vehicle collision . The driver of the at-fault vehicle struck a parked car while attempting U-turn. The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene during the police investigation. Damage to the parked car was minor and no charges were placed. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 9:10 pm officers investigated a hit and run motor vehicle collision . The owner of a 2002 GMC Yukon SUV came out to his vehicle and discovered damage to the front driver’s side that was not present when the vehicle was parked. The investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle struck the SUV and left the scene. 3300 block Buchanan Street : At about 9:15 pm officers operating a mobile license plate reader (LPR) received a stolen hit on a blue 2000 Dodge Intrepid that was parked and unoccupied. Police Report: October 18-20

October 18th : 4100 block of 29th Street : At about 10:40 am officers took a report of an attempted burglary . The victim showed the officers where someone used some sort of pry tool in an attempt to open her front door. No entry was made into the residence and nothing was reported missing. The victim told the officers the only thing suspicious that occurred recently was on October 15th when two Hispanic males came to her house soliciting work. No definite connection could be made between these two men and the attempted burglary. October 19th : 40000 block of 36th Street : At about 9:30 am officers responded for the report of a tree down . The officers found where a very large tree had fallen causing damage to the surrounding neighbors’ yards and property. The house and property on which the tree had originally grown is vacant and attempts to contact the property owner were negative. 3600 block of Rhode Island Avenue : At about 12:45 pm officers took a report of lost property .

Police Report: October 15-17

October 15th : 2300 block of Varnum Street : At about 6:30 pm officers took a report of a citizen armed robbery . The victim told the officers that he had just cashed his paycheck and was standing at a bus stop waiting for the bus. He was approached by a black male, about 20 years of age wearing a black skull cap, a black jacket and blue jeans who asked him for a cigarette. When the victim gave the man a cigarette three other black males came up to the victim, one of wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and forced him to the ground. The victim struggled with the suspects until the first suspect raised his shirt and displayed a handgun and told the victim to stop fighting. The other three suspects then went through the victim’s pockets and stole his property including the cash he had just received from cashing his check. Assistance Needed in Identifying a Suspicious Vehicle

This information is being disseminated for investigatory purposes only, and neither the described vehicle nor any possible occupant is believed to pose a threat to any person or property . The police department has received an anonymous tip that a dark burgundy Ford Mustang may be involved in narcotics trafficking and prostitution. The vehicle has been seen 3-4 times per week in the area of the alley that runs behind the 3100 and 3200 blocks of Perry Street (Alley 17); and near the intersection of 31st Street and Bunker Hill Road. The MRPD is asking for the public’s help in locating and identifying this car and any occupants. If anyone sees a vehicle matching the above description please call our Communications center at 301-985-6565/6566. Residents are asked not to approach the vehicle but to call police with the location, a license plate number if possible and a description of anyone inside the car.

Police Report: October 13-14

October 13th : 3200 block of Queenstown Drive : At about 10 pm officers received a call to assist Queenstown security officers with a trespasser. The officers arrived and located the man in question who had been previously banned from the apartment complex. They also discovered that he was consuming an alcoholic beverage in a public place. He was issued a criminal citation for the alcohol violation, re-advised that he was banned from the complex and escorted off the property. October 14th : 3300 block of Chillum Road : At about 9:50 am officers responded for the report of an attempted armed robbery that occurred earlier. The victim (a female in her teens) told the officers that about an hour earlier she was approached by four black males, all of whom were wearing dark clothing and masks. One of the men produced a knife and held it to her throat while the other three tried to take her book bag. The victim struggled with the men and was able to fend them off and keep her bag. The

October 11th : 4300 block of Russell Avenue : At about 9:30 am officers took a report of an attempted burglary . The victim told the officers that he was sleeping on the couch when he was awakened by a loud noise. Once awake he saw a black male attempting to climb through his living room window. The victim yelled at the man and he immediately fled the area on foot. A search of the area for the suspect proved negative. The window was processed and several latent fingerprints were recovered and sent for analysis. October 12th : 3300 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 3:40 pm officers took a theft report. The victim told the officers that while she was at work someone stole her purse that she had left in her office. No evidence/witnesses were identified. 3100 block of Queens Chapel Road : At about 10:30 pm officers took a missing person report. Police Report: October 8-10

October 8th : 4600 block of 29th Street : At about 3 pm officers took a report of a citizen armed robbery . The victim told the officers that he was approached by two men wearing ski masks. One of the men pointed a handgun at him and robbed him of his cell phone and cash. The two suspects got into a black SUV and fled the area. The victim was not able to provide a description of the suspects or a more detailed description of the SUV. PGPD detectives responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. 2900 block of Arundel Road : At about 9:45 pm officers investigated a residential burglary . The victim/resident told the officers that she left her apartment at about 4 pm. At about 9:45 pm a downstairs neighbor discovered that the victim’s door had been pried open and called police. The victim reported numerous pieces of jewelry, two computers, two iPhones, and a home theater system missing from the apartment. No further evidence or witnesses were located. October 9th : 4
